Research and Planning: My First Podcast

Research and Planning: Questionnaire results

these are my questionnaire results that I received from a variety of people. From this i now know what people would normally see in a fantasy film and i shall take note on what people did say. this has helped me greatly with the my trailer and i now know what i could do for my trailer.

Research and Planning: Teaser Trailer Conventions

As a pair we will be making a teaser trailer, a Film Poster and a Film Magazine for a fantasy film. i understand now that we cannot just end up with a fantasy film and another genre is going to have to combine with it. so the other genre we will use is

Here is an example of a teaser trailer from the Lord of The Rings film The Two Towers  which i dont think we will be able to use to help us with our trailer.

What we will need to put in our teaser trailer are things like:
  • The Title of the Film
  • The Production Company at the Start
  • The Certificate of the Film
  • Montague scene throughout the trailer
  • a voice over or subtitles
Here is another teaser trailer of The Goonies which will be more like our teaser trailer that we aim to produce.

Research and Planning: Audience theories

The Hypodermic Theory -The theory is about the message of the media text that goes straight into the brain.

Cultivation Theory - This theory is a social theory which examined the long term effects of television on the audiences of all ages

Desensitisation  - People are exposed to so much violence in media violence no longer makes a strong emotional impact upon them

Modelling or the Copycat Theory - People copying things off video games, self explanatory

Uses and Gratifications  - More focus on the consumer than the actual message itself. What people do with media rather than what media does to people.

Research and Planning: Target Audience

my target audience for my film would be towards around 12-15 year old with both male and female. they will be in school and will not have a job as there are too young. also the parents of some children may like this kind of film so parents maybe interested.
Children of this kind of age will be into collecting cards maybe from films such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

Research and Planning: Questionnaire questions

These are the questions that I have used for my questionnaire that I have given out.

1. What type of genre do you like?

2. What certificate would you think a fantasy is?

U          PG        12A        15        18

3. What is your favourite fantasy film?

4. Where would you watch or listen to a teaser trailer?

5. What would you expect in a teaser trailer?

6. What is the difference between a teaser trailer and a main trailer?

7. How would you normally watch a film (e.g Cinema)?

8. In a teaser trailer for a fantasy film, what would be more effective a voice over or subtitles ?

Research and Planning: Analysis of 'The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King

Research and Planning: Analysis of 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' Teaser Trailer

For my first analysis of a teaser trailer i am going to use the film The Spiderwick Chronicles as it is a similar genre and is aimed at the same audience as my teaser trailer.

 Genre
The genre of the Spiderwick Chronicles is a children fantasy with goblins and and mole trolls. Children are the main characters of this film and try to save the day

 Audience
The audience of the film is a PG film where some scenes maybe offensive to young children which is why the parents should check to see if the film will be OK for the children.

Media Language
Editing techniques were used in this teaser trailer from The Spiderwick Chronicles throughout.

The Teaser Trailer starts off with a MPPA warning to show that the trailer is telling the audience that it has been approved for all audiences to watch by the motion Pictures association of America.

- Dissolve - This happens around 31 seconds into the trailer when it goes from one thing to another. In this instant, it dissolves from the boy to the book, and then to a pen, and back to the boy. This is used to shorten the trailer and put emphasis on the boy and the book which shows that these two objects are the most important things in the film

- Fade to black - this was used in the 37th second to end that short scene and go into another scene. it is used because the the two scenes do not go together and wouldn't make sense if it went straight into the next scene.

- Jump Cut - These cuts are used throughout the teaser trailer to emphasize the amount of action that is in the film. it goes from one seen straight to the other with everything involving the main character.

- Straight cut - Straight cuts are are the same as jump cuts but are a slower transaction. This is used because no other transaction would be effective for parts of the film when it is building up to the action which is always at the end of the trailer.

- Graphic Match - This is effective when Subtitles have come up and it goes into the next scene like in the 20th second of the trailer when it finishes with the subtitles and uses the light of a torch to become a new scene with a torch being used. It is a very quick and effective way of changing scenes.

Research and Planning: Film Poster Practice

This is my practice of a film poster. it is not the best poster but it shows that i have the knowledge to make the poster on my film in the next coming weeks.

Research and Planning: Regulation and Censorship

For my Film that I am creating,  I am going to have the rating of a 12A due to some scenes may be unsuitable for children due to the action and violence that is involved. We can put a 12A on the film so the parents can find information about the film and check if it is suitable for their child.

For my trailer, I am going to change the rating to a PG as there will be not as much violence and action involved but still might be a small scene in the trailer that viewers may find offensive.
