This week Tasha and I will be auditioning people for parts of our trailer.
To be prepared for this I will be writing a script for the actors to use while being filmed.

Research and Planning: Location Reccee Plan
Here is our plan for our trip to see all the location recces that we will be doing on the 25th which is today, We will have photos up of all the locations by next week.
Research and Planning: Location update
We were going to film in Manchester city centre on Market street but when we travelled down there to take a picture, and we realised that the street is all cobbled. This will be contradicting because it was meant to be filmed for the real world and people may get puzzled with the underground and the real world.

Research and Planning: Plan For The Week
This week, Tasha and I are going to finalise our locations. On Friday, we both have a free lesson, so will visit the locations from our list that we think are best and make sure that they are suitable, as well as doing location recces. I thought of another possible location for our filming - Stockport Air Raid Shelters!
The shelters are located under Stockport Town Centre, about 6/7 miles away from our college, and are real life shelters used in WW2 - no pretending tunnels are underground - these actually are!
The tunnels are now owned by a company that sells tours to members of the public, so if we wanted to film there, we'd have to get in touch with them. We will see what we can do this week.
Meanwhile, we'll look further into props, particularly the badges and energy cylinder for the underworld, as we are having a few issues with how real they will look.

Research and Planning: Locations
A list of locations we are considering for our film trailer is as follows:
Manchester City Centre - Market Street
We would use this as part of the real world, showing how busy it is and how alive etc the world feels
Hyde Town Centre
Hyde Town Centre would be the perfect place to film some of our 'real world' shots, as it's a typical town centre with a shopping mall, and is local to our college, so convenient for both of us.
Dukinfield Town Centre
Dukinfield Town Centre is a bit further afield than Hyde is, but is quite an old, picturesque town, and would be a nice place to film to show the contrast between the calm, tranquil world and the panic stricken and desperate underworld.
Johnson Brook
Johnson Brook is a cobbled street in Dukinfield with a bridge and would be the perfect location for a lot of our underground shots.
We looked it up on Google Maps:
Ashton /Hyde Subway
The subway idea came from a realisation that we can't really have our underground world climbing from manholes linked to the sewage system!
To get around this problem, we decided a subway was the best way to portray the link between underground and the real world.

Research and Planning: Name Ideas
While creating our storyboard, Tasha and I had a brainwave over what we wanted to call the film.
At first, we were throwing around the idea of 'The Battle for the Sun'. This was inspired by our animated storyboard, when we realised how much focus we would have to put on the sun and the energy cylinder to in the trailer to make the plot make sense.
From this idea, we also decided we wanted to include in our film name that there are two worlds, as the name 'The Battle for the Sun' on its own may seem a little vague.
Therefore, our final idea for our film name is 'Two Worlds: The Battle for the Sun', giving the opportunity for sequels to be made (not in real life, but hinting at the enormity that this film could have).

Research and Planning: Analysis of film magazine 2

- In this Film magazine, the genre of this film magazine, is aiming at a fantasy due to the film that has been chosen for the main image which is Harry Potter.
- Once again the mast head is at the top in the centre and has the largest font size on the page. The main image used overlaps the masthead but because there has been so many issues and it is very popular the masthead doesn't all have to be shown
- again with the main image you can tell it is a film magazine with one of the most popular films ever made. Even with the small images it is to with the main image.
- This film magazine goes against most magazines as there are more than 3 colours that are used on this cover.
- With this magazine they don't have small images about another film but they still have the sub heading that will be in the magazine
- as all magazines have they have an issue number and date of the magazine. it also has the price of the magazine in the same place
- one last thing is that the barcode is at the bottom right of the page which all magazines should have as well.
Research and Planning: analysis of film magazine 1
- The genre of this magazine cover is a fantasy/ sci-fi film with the film being Avatar and you can tell its a fantasy by the person of not being human.
- You can tell that this is a film magazine due to the masthead that is called Total Film. this is a masthead due to the font size as its the largest on the page and its at the top in the centre
- Also the sub headings have got all information about other films around the magazine which also distinguishes a magazine.
- It has a main image in the centre of the page and underneath has the storyline. You can tell it is towards the main image as the font size is larger than the rest apart from the masthead.
- Also on the page they are sticking to the 3 colours which most magazines do. These colours are Blue, White and Gold. this is due the what colors the film is known for such as the blue is because of the colour of the actors.
- The magazine has an issue number, date and also the price of the magazine in a small area about the letter M which shows you how many magazines have been sold and at a certain price.
- It has the barcode at the bottom of the page so it is able to be sold and that always shows that it is a magazine.

Research and Planning: Film Poster Drafts
here are my drafts of a film poster.. these are the sort of things that i will be making to look like a poster.
Friday, 4 November 2011
Research and Planning: analysis of Film Poster 2
A medium shot of the character in the centre is showing that he is the main character in the film as all the other characters are small and are faded out a little bit. The colour of the poster has all different colours but showing the glow off the sword is showing that it could be a fantasy with also a lion and the children in the background look to be fighting as well which indicates it is a fantasy. From the title and the narrative you can get a sense of the narrative that of the main character fighting for the world. The audience i think it is towards are teenagers with fighting happening and both male and female with the main character as a good looker for women. the mise en scene is showing that it could be about the castle or someone who is living in the castle that is whats going to happen. you can tell its a poster from the steel tongues and with the cast a crew information being on them and also the logos with the date that is coming out at the bottom of the page.
Research and Planning: analysis of film poster 1
A long shot shown of character in the poster, looks like that he is the main character in the film as he is the only one shown and the way he is on the poster is as if he may be fighting and there maybe another world that he can go through. The colour of the poster is dark with colours of blue and black and a light colour of white indicating the genre of the film which looks like a sci-fi, action and fantasy merged into one. this can be seen by the character moving from one place to another through a wall that it seems and also the way he the photo has been taken with him looking like he is ready to fight. The character looks like it is aimed at teenage boys with fighting in the film. you can tell its a poster through the steel tongue font at the bottom of the poster with the inclusion of the production company and logos. Also there is information on the cast and crew and when the film comes out on DVD.

Research and planning: Animatic storyboard
This is my animatic storyboard of the trailer we will be making. This is still just a outline job of what we will be doing so it may change throughout the year.
Research and planning: Treatment
Tasha and I have decided to go with our second idea due to the comments we received back from our proposals.
Plot
The plot that we have is that it has two worlds: the real world as we know it and the underground world where people live only off the energy of the sun which is collected in an energy cylinder underground and transmitted to badge type devices on peoples chests. one day they find that the energy cylinder is running out, and their man-kind is under threat of becoming extinct. they understand that the only way to get the energy back is going into the real world to fight for the sun.
Mise en Scene
- The real world always sunny and bright colours.
- Lots of greenery with trees, park spaces, children having fun
- The underground dark and dingy with bright chest badges
- The underground looking like the plague with tight alley ways with adults on the street
- Until the fight begins the brightness will go, more dark and rubble everywhere
- In the real world the clothing will be well dressed with bright clothing and the actors will be clean.
- In The underground the clothing will be dark and dirty with the actors will dirt all over them and haven't had a shower for days
- In the underground they will be wearing bright badges for them to stay alive as they are run on sun energy.
- There will be fighting gear such as helmets, swords, rocks, Armour etc
Cinematography
- Will be putting in Long shots, medium to long shots, establishing shot, close ups, extreme close ups
- The angles we will be putting in are low angle, high angle, eye level, worms eye, birds eye, Point of view
- The movement of the camera will be Crab, zoom, tilt and a track
Sound
- Before the scenes of fighting starts with sounds such as birds and barking from dogs and also calm music
- In the underground the sounds will be like string music representing tragedy and dark moments .
- When the fighting begins the sound will be more upbeat with adventure music.
- The terms that will be used are diegetic sound, non diegetic sound, possibly a narrative, synchronous, asynchronous and score
Editing
- The techniques we will be using in the trailer will be transitions like, straight cut, fade, wipe, jump cut, cut away and shot reverse shot and also maybe a graphic match
- the pace of editing we maybe using are things like fast cutting and slow cutting

Research and Planning: Costume and Props List
Today, Tasha and I have been thinking of ideas for our costume and props, looking at cost, and how realistic each idea is. As I am in charge of Mise en Scene, I have made a list of this, and will further research where we can buy products, the costs of these, and will make an estimation as to how long it will take to make the props that are specific to our trailer.
This is our research so far:
Underground citizens
Ripped clothing, shirts and pants with rugged edges. Dirt stains
Shirts for men and women can be bought from Primark for around £4 each.
We will have to research to look at the cheapest pair of trousers we can find - these people live in squalor, so it doesn't matter if their clothing is cheap and bad quality!
'Real world' citizens
This is much easier, as it is dressing people in what they usually wear!
We will not need to buy any costumes for this, and will have to just ask cast members to come in casual clothing.
Armour, swords etc.
Armour and swords can easily be bought from toy stores, or fancy dress shops. We will need to research prices for these. We also planned to use rocks, which we can pick up from parks, woods or even our own back gardens! (Don't worry, no people will be harmed in the making of this trailer...we hope!)
Badges for Underground Citizens
For the badges, we may buy some paper party bowls from a supermarket and paint or draw designs on them. This isn't ideal, as we fear the badges will look really cheap, and as important props, we don't want them to, but it's the best we can think of for now.
Energy Cylinder
We will discuss with our tutor, Angela, what she thinks we can do to create the cylinder, as this is expected to be a large prop.

- SLR camera, to take my photos and videos from,
- Imovie to edit my trailer and make it in one teaser trailer,
- Garageband,
- final cut pro,
- photoshop
- and my blogging software aswell.
Research and planning: Production schedule
This is my production schedule. This is the guideline that i will follow to finish my coursework but this may change throughout the year all depending on what is more important.
